Norwegian Nynorsk[edit]

Alternative forms[edit]

Etymology[edit]

Proposed etymology is sol (sun) +‎ auge (eye), although Ivar Aasen was not agree with it. According to some alternative views, the word can derivate from sol (sun) +‎ leie (flower). [1] [2]

Noun[edit]

soleie f (definite singular soleia, indefinite plural soleier, definite plural soleiene)

  1. (botany) buttercup or any flower of the genus Ranunculus
    Synonym: smørblom
  2. (dialectal) any wild meadow flower
