Etymology

From Proto-Turkic *sok- (to pierce, stick into), which was homonyms to and possibly cognate with Proto-Turkic *sok- (to hit, beat, crush)[1]. Compare Karakhanid سُقْماق (suqmāq), Turkish sokmak (to insert), etc.
