From Vulgar Latin *expanticō (to burst) (compare Romanian spinteca, spintec, Venetian spantegar (to bust; scatter, sprinkle), Calabrian spantecare ("to open")), from Latin pantices (bowels), plural of pantex; cf. pãnticã.
