From Russian стака́н (stakán, glass), itself a Turkic borrowing, compare Chagatai [script needed] (tostakan, wooden bowl), Tatar тустыган (tustığan, cup), Bashkir туҫтаҡ (tuθtaq, cup for drinking koumiss), Kazakh тостаған (tostağan, wooden cup).
