Inherited from Old Polish strzała, from Proto-Slavic *strěla, from Proto-Indo-European *strel-, *strēl-, from *ster- (“line, streak, stripe; jet, spurt; beam”). Cognate with Czech střela (“projectile”), Lithuanian strėlė (“arrow”), English streal (“arrow”), German Strahl (“beam, ray”).
