synthorax (plural synthoraxes or synthoraces)

  1. In dragonflies and damselflies, the mesothorax and metathorax when fused together.
    The meso- and metathorax are large and powerful, and become fused together into one solid mass, which may conveniently be termed the synthorax.[1]
