[edit]Inherited from Old Polish szczyry, from Proto-Slavic *ščirъ, from Proto-Indo-European *(s)kei̯ro-. Cognate with dialectal Russian щи́рый (ščíryj), Belarusian шчыры (ščyry), Ukrainian щи́рий (ščýryj), Czech čirý, Slovak číry.
