Etymology[edit]

Borrowed from Dutch tand, from Middle Dutch tant, from Old Dutch *tand, from Proto-Germanic *tanþs, from Proto-Indo-European *h₃dónts. Older Saramaccan also had a term corresponding to Sranan Tongo tifi and Aukan tifi, which are nonetheless cognates.
