Etymology[edit]

Named from the Gaelic "tacharan", a changeling + -ite, because when this poorly studied mineral was discovered, it was first supposed that on standing in air it breaks down to form other compounds (tobermorite and gyrolite).[1]

Noun[edit]

tacharanite (usually uncountable, plural tacharanites)

  1. (mineralogy) A monoclinic white mineral containing aluminum, calcium, hydrogen, oxygen, and silicon.
