From (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Ancient Greek τετράεδρον (tetráedron, triangle-based pyramid), from τετράεδρος (tetráedros), from τετράς (tetrás, four) + ἕδρα (hédra, seat); synchronically analyzable as tetra- +‎ -hedron.
