Etymology[edit]

  • Derived from the corruption of Russian витебляне, which in Russian is used to refer to people from the city of Vitebsk: витебляне ‎(vitebljane) > tibla
  • By popular lore, possibly from Russian ты бля ‎(ty blja, you whore), a vulgar colloquial form of address.
