Etymology

Prefixed formation from merrë (fear), with r-doublet for expressive reasons, from (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Proto-Indo-European *mor- (feminine evil spirit). Cognate to Proto-Germanic *maron (nightmare) (cf. Old English mare (nightmare, monster)), Proto-Slavic *mora (cf. Polish zmora (nightmare), Czech mura (nightmare, moth)), or to Greek μέριμνα (mérimna, thought, trouble, uneasiness).[1] Alternatively from Latin timor, but this is unlikely due to the i not being retained in the Albanian.

Noun

tmerr m

  1. horror, terror
  2. awe
