  1. The region, between the Tropic of Cancer and the Tropic of Capricorn, characterised by a hot and humid climate; the tropics.
    • 1646, Thomas Browne, Pseudodoxia Epidemica, I.6:
      They conceived the torrid Zone unhabitable, and so made frustrate the goodliest part of the Earth.
