Etymology[edit]
From Arabic أُوقِيَّة (ʔūqiyya), from Classical Syriac ܐܘܢܩܝܐ (ʾūnqīyā), from Ancient Greek οὐγγία (oungía), from Latin ūncia.

uqija f (dual uqitejn, plural ewwieq or ewieq or wieq, paucal uqijiet or uqiet)
- a traditional unit of weight, still used e.g. in household contexts, equivalent to 1⁄30 of a ratal, that is officially 0.933 imperial ounces (26.46 g), now sometimes metrified informally to mean 30 grammes (which would be 3⁄80 of a metrical ratal)
- ounce (in other systems)
