From Arabic أُوقِيّة (ʔūqiyya), from Classical Syriac ܐܘܢܩܝܐ (ʾūnqīyā), from Ancient Greek οὐγγία (oungía), from Latin uncia.

uqija f (plural ewieq or uqijiet, dual uqitejn)

  1. a traditional unit of weight, still used e.g. in household contexts, equivalent to 1:30 of a ratal, that is officially 0.933 imperial ounces (26.46 g), now sometimes metrified informally to mean 30 grammes (which would be 3:80 of a metrical ratal)
  2. ounce (in other systems)
