[edit]From vaap(a)- + -ukka, a blend of Proto-Finnic *vabarna with vatukka. Related to Ingrian vaapukka, Votic baabukõz and dialectal Estonian vaabaka. The long -aa- is probably by analogy with juolukka (< *joolukka), as well as possibly *vaarma (see vaarain).
