From Proto-Albanian *wedza, from Proto-Indo-European *wéǵʰeti (to go, carry) Compare Gothic gawigan (to steal), Latin vehere (to bear, to carry), Lithuanian vèžti.[1] For sense development, compare Proto-Indo-European *bʰṓr "thief", from the root *bʰer- (to carry), whence Latin fūr and Ancient Greek φώρ (phṓr).
