From Proto-Albanian *ueh(u)Vr-, from Proto-Indo-European *sueḱue/or-, *swéḱuros 'father-in-law'. Cognate to Ancient Greek ἑκυρός (hekurós, father-in-law), German Schwieger(vater) 'father-in-law', Old English sweor, Latin socer, Russian свёкор (svjókor), Serbo-Croatian svekar, Sanskrit श्वशुर (śvaśura), Armenian սկեսուր (skesur)[1].
