Etymology
From Middle High German warnen (“to watch over, protect”), Old High German warnen (“to deny, refuse, decline”). Cognate with Old Norse varna (“to refuse”), Old Saxon wernian (“to decline, withhold”), Old English wyrnan, English warn.[1] From Proto-Germanic *warnōną.
