[edit]From Proto-Albanian *awi-sta, from Proto-Indo-European *h₂éwis (“bird”) and *steh₂- (“to stand”). Originally meaning 'to foretell according to birds, to augur'. Compare Latin augurāre and auspicāre.[1]
