Romanian

Etymology

From Latin dīcere, present active participle of dīcō, from Proto-Italic *deikō, from Proto-Indo-European *déyḱti (to show, point out).

Pronunciation

Verb

a zice (third-person singular present zice, past participle zis) 3rd conj.

  1. to say

Usage notes

Though zice is less commonly used than spune ( synonym ), the imperative form zi is used rather frequently. When used, it usually doesn't accompany a dative pronoun, instead being used alone as zi. Dative pronouns are more commonly used with the imperative spune, e.g: spune-mi, tell me or spune-le, tell them.
