From στωῐ̈κός (stōïkós, of a colonnade or porch), from *στωᾱ́ (*stōā́), στῳά (stōiá), spelling of στοᾱ́ (stoā́) +‎ -ῐκός (-ikós). From the place, a στοά (stoá), where Zenon taught. Also substantivised.
