[edit]Perfect participle of αποστέλλομαι (apostéllomai), passive voice of αποστέλλω (“send, dispatch”). Learnedly, from Hellenistic Koine Greek ἀπεσταλμένος (apestalménos), participle of the ancient verb ἀποστέλλω (apostéllō) & semantic loan from French envoyé. Also substantivised.
