Diminutive form of σαγάνι (sagáni, “double-handled pan”), from Ottoman Turkish صحن (sahan, sahın), from Arabic صَحْن (ṣaḥn). Compare Greek τηγάνι (tigáni, “frying pan”) and Ancient Greek τήγανον (tḗganon) or τάγηνον (tágēnon).
