Etymology[edit]

Medical term, ultimately from Latin pandēmia, probably borrowed from a Western language. Built on the basis of Ancient Greek ἐπιδημία (epidēmía) from παν- (pan-, all around) +‎ δῆμος (dêmos, people, population).
