Etymology[edit]

Ultimately from Latin terra (land) and Ancient Greek κῶνος (kônos, cone). Melnychuk claims a borrowing from French terriconique.[1] Compare Russian террико́н (terrikón), Belarusian тэрыко́н (terykón).
