Etymology

Inherited from Old East Slavic юродивъ (jurodivŭ), from Proto-Slavic *ǫrodivъ. Associated with *ǫrodъ. Iotation indicates that the source was the Old Novgorod or Old Pskov dialects, compare Old Pskovian ѭза (jǫźa).[1]
