[edit]Inherited from Proto-Turkic *kentir, *kendir (“hemp”); compare Bashkir киндер, Chuvash кантӑр (kant̬ăr), Karakalpak kendir, Kazakh кендір (kendır), Kyrgyz кендир (kendir), Tatar киндер (kinder), Turkmen kendir, Tuvan хендир (xendir) and Hungarian kender, an Oghur Turkic loanword.
