Back-formed from the binomial name নজরুল ইসলাম (nozrul islam), borrowed from Arabic نذر الإسلام (naḏr al-islām, literally vow of Islam), a compound of نذر (naḏr, vow) + ال (al-, definite article) + إسلام (Islām). Doublet of নাজির (nazir).
