From Early Assamese ৰাজা (raja), from Sanskrit राजन् (rājan), from Proto-Indo-Iranian *Hrā́ȷ́s, from Proto-Indo-European *h₃rḗǵs (ruler, king). Doublet of ৰাণা (rana).
