Etymology

From ไป (bpai, to go) +‎ ดี (dii, well); possibly influenced by or calque from Pali sugati (happiness; happy state or condition, literally good course; good going), from which Thai สุคติ is derived, or sugata (an epithet of the Budda, literally (one who has) gone well), from which Thai สุคต is derived.
