Generally considered to changed from あります (arimasu).

Had been occupational dialect used by prostitutes in Edo.

  1. (dialectal, obsolete) Nonstandard form of あります (arimasu, polite form of ある (aru, to exist); polite assertion). [18th–19th c.]
    • 1781, Koikawa Harumachi, Mudaiki (無益委記):
      なんだか、ご(ほふ)()にあふやうでありんす
      Nandaka, go-hōji ni au yō de arinsu
      Somehow, I'm feeling like I meet a memorial service.
