Etymology
[edit]밥 (bap, “rice; food”) + 뭇나 (munna, past polar question-interrogative form of 묵다 (mukda, “to eat”)). Literally "Did you eat something?"
Compare the semantics of Chinese 你吃飯了嗎／你吃饭了吗 (nǐ chīfàn le ma).
