From Ottoman Turkish چانقیری (Çankırı), equivalent to çan +‎ kırı . It is more probable and sensible that the origin of the name comes from the previous name (Γάγγρα ή Γάγγραι) Gangra which is therefore evolved throughout the history to Çankırı
