Etymology

Learned borrowing from Ancient Greek ἀναγνωρίζω (anagnōrízō). From the sense "admit" Semantic loan from French reconnaître.[1] Morphologically, from ανα- (ana-, repeated) +‎ γνωρίζω (gnorízo, know).
