Etymology 1
[edit]The earlier form is հոգվոց (hogvocʻ), originally in the phrase հոգվոց հանել (hogvocʻ hanel), from Old Armenian յոգւոց հանել (yogwocʻ hanel, “to sigh”), where յոգւոց (yogwocʻ) is յ- (y-) + ոգւոց (ogwocʻ), the plural ablative case of ոգի (ogi, “soul; breath”).
