Etymology[edit]

From Classical Syriac ܡܥܙܐ (maʿəzē, hair), originally referring to goat's hair and ultimately from Proto-West Semitic *maʕaz- (goat). In the Bible, մազ (maz) frequently refers to goat's hair.
