Etymology[edit]
The original spelling is պաշտաւն (paštawn), from earlier *պաշտամն (*paštamn) (compare the genitive պաշտաման (paštaman), plural պաշտամունք (paštamunkʻ)), from Iranian *pari-štā-man-. See պաշտեմ (paštem) for more. For մ (m) → ւ (w) compare անուն (anun), -իւն (-iwn), թեղօշ (tʻełōš).
