Pronunciation[edit]
Etymology 1[edit]
Sense 1 probably related to Slovak cvikla, Polish ćwikła and Russian свёкла (svjókla) (therefore ultimately from Ancient Greek σεῦκλον (seûklon)), although unclear reason for loss of ־לאַ (-la). Sense 2 uncertain.
