Etymology[edit]

Past participle of the root वच् (√vac, to speak, say, tell). From Proto-Indo-European *ukto-, which is a zero-grade of Proto-Indo-European *wekʷ-. Compare Sogdian [script needed] (úxtə, said, spoken), Avestan [script needed] [script needed] (uxti, word, speech), [script needed] (uxta, said, spoken) and Old Armenian ուխտ (uxt).
