Inherited from Ashokan Prakrit *𑀓𑁄𑀫𑁆𑀳𑁆- (*komh-, to wither). Compare Punjabi ਕੁਮਲਾਉਣਾ (kumlāuṇā), Nepali कुम्लाउनु (kumlāunu), Marathi कोंबणे (kombṇe), कोमजणे (komaj̈ṇe).
