Etymology 3[edit]

Of uncertain origin. Probably related to Hittite [script needed] (kar-za, kar-za-na-aš, a weaver's tool for making thread). Comparisons to Ancient Greek κάρταλλος (kártallos, a basket with a pointed bottom) and Latin crātis (wickerwork) have also been made.
