From Old Khmer តំលិង (taṃliṅa), តំលីង (taṃlīṅa), តំម្លិង (taṃmliṅa), តំម្លីង (taṃmlīṅa), តម្លិង (tamliṅa, weight for precious metals; coin, probably of silver). Cognate with Modern Khmer តំឡឹង (tɑmləng), Lao ຕຳລຶງ (tam lưng).
