From Teochew 辦/办 (bang7, poin7, bain7) or Hokkien 辦/办 (pān), according to SEAlang.[1] Compare Chinese 編/编 (biān), 辮/辫 (biàn). Cognate with Lao ເປັຽ (pīa).
