Sino-Korean word from 金曜日, from  (“gold”) and 曜日 (“day of the week”) ., from Latin dies Veneris (“day of Venus”), through Indian astrology in the fifth century as Sanskrit bhṝguvāra (bhṝgu, “of the planet Venus”) into Buddhist astrology in the eighth century as 金曜日 (, “gold”, the Buddhist element associated with the planet Venus).
