Etymology[edit]
From Közúti (“related to public roads”) + Rendelkezések (“provisions, directions”) + Egységes (“unified”) + Szabályozása (“regulation of”),[1] literally “Unified Regulation of Public Road Provisions”, published in 1975. Its predecessor was A közúti közlekedési rend és közrend egységes szabályzata (“The Unified Regulation of Public Road Traffic Order and Public Order”) in 1929.[2]
It is also defined as közlekedésrendészeti (“related to traffic administration”) + szabályok (“rules”) + gyűjteménye (“collection of”),[3][4] literally “Collection of Traffic Administration-Related Rules”, its first element being közlekedés (“traffic”) + rendészet (“policing, law and order”) + -i (adjective-forming suffix), from közlekedik (“to go, run”, on the road) and rend (“order”).
