Talk:ai jerning

I am very suspicious of this translation. Neither of the sources listed as references are perfectly reliable, and to me this just looks like "clear water". I would assume that ai is cognate to Indonesian air (“water”) and jerning to Indonesian jernih (“clear, transparent”). The default word for "water" is unlikely to be two words, after all. It's not inherently/entirely implausible that the usual word for water might be polymorphemic; some languages have one word for "drinkable liquid" and form the word for "specifically water" by adding to it. However, you are probably correct. Morfologi dan sintaksis bahasa Sumbawa (1986) glosses Sumbawa ai aning (also aiyaning) as air madu, and meyai as sumer penghidupan, from me (nasi) and ai (air). - -sche (discuss) 06:15, 11 April 2016 (UTC)
