None of these definitions seem to fit "a one-shot character". The concept is similar to a "one-shot" tv-show or "one-shot" event. A thing which is done only once, to fill a need which is unlikely to be repeated. That's the poorest phrasing in the world, so I'm not going to add it :)

Cleanup of wikipedia page for "One shot"[edit]

I am cleaning up the disambiguation page wikipedia:One shot and drop off some further definitions here (if someone wants to work them in).

  • a type of long lasting paint.
  • an electronic one-shot, see Pulse generator.
  • In sampling a one-shot is a sample that is played without immediate repetition. Contrast with a loop. (source: Duffell, Daniel (2005). Making Music with Samples: Tips, Techniques, and 600+ Ready-to-Use Samples. →ISBN. page 14)
  • "One Shot" is video game (specifically, role-playing game) slang for being hit with one absurdly powerful attack that kills your character outright (i.e. 'My Warrior walked around the corner and got one shot by a dragon'). It is analogous to the term headshot in a first person shooter.

Rfv-sense: headshot. I have heard this used to refer to any shot that kills someone (from full hit points) in one hit, not just headshots. —CodeCat 13:19, 11 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
