French[edit]

Needs French, but it will be complicated . Mglovesfun (talk) 11:00, 3 March 2010 (UTC)

Two different genders and 2 plurals, eh? Strange, but I'm sure out {{fr-noun}} could handle that. The definitions will be easy enough tho...at least the first one # {{Canada|lang=fr}} {{l|en|party}} {{gloss|social event}} --Rising Sun talk? 11:04, 3 March 2010 (UTC)

Throwing a party[edit]

Why do you throw a party? What's the origin of that expression? -95.222.218.167 14:37, 23 June 2010 (UTC)

One of the meanings of throw is to give by way of entertainment, but I don’t think anybody knows when throw took on this sense. —Stephen 20:19, 23 June 2010 (UTC)
I added throw a party. Dcoetzee (talk) 01:15, 14 June 2011 (UTC)

English noun[edit]

How is sense 8 different from 7? 81.68.255.36 17:36, 4 December 2010 (UTC)

Do you mean 8 and 9 or 7 and 8. Seven and eight differ in that 8 does not involve people, among other things. DCDuring TALK 22:52, 26 December 2010 (UTC)

I play games online, whenever people start a party they mean to involve actual people (though not in person, yes) instead of their gaming character/profile. 81.68.255.36 12:13, 2 January 2011 (UTC)

Come to think of it, sense 9 is problematic to me as well. To whom is wiktionary trying to explain this? If someone of an old generation would see a "group of characters controlled by the player", is he really incapable of seeing the characters in their artificial world? Should we create definitions for everything that is in games? 81.68.255.36 12:19, 2 January 2011 (UTC)
