This template is used in the etymology section. Use
{{prefix|prefix|root}}
where prefix is the prefix, excluding hyphen, and root is the root of the term. For instance, a simple etymology of undo could be created with:

which evaluates to:
Optional arguments
- lang
- Language
- gloss1, gloss2
- Glosses
- t1, t2
- Glosses (alternative; the 't' stands for "translation")
- tr1, tr2
- Transliteration of word 1 and word 2 respectively (for non-Latin scripts)
- sc
- Script, i.e. the name of a script code template, see Category:Script code templates (for non-Latin scripts)
- alt1, alt2
- Alternate text.
- pos1, pos2
- Part-of-speech information. Additional unquoted explanatory text, coming after the transliteration and gloss.
For prefixes or words which have more than one language definition, a language parameter can be added, this should be a language code:

gives the ouput:
If prefixes or words are written in non-Latin scripts, one script parameter (sc) and two transliteration parameters (tr1 and tr2) can be added.

gives the output
с- (s-, “with”) + путник (putnik, “traveller”)
