The following documentation is located at Template:prefix/documentation. [edit]

This template is used in the etymology section. Use

{{prefix|prefix|root}}

where prefix is the prefix, excluding hyphen, and root is the root of the term. For instance, a simple etymology of undo could be created with:

{{prefix|un|do}}

which evaluates to:

un- +‎ do

Optional arguments

lang
Language
gloss1, gloss2
Glosses
t1, t2
Glosses (alternative; the 't' stands for "translation")
tr1, tr2
Transliteration of word 1 and word 2 respectively (for non-Latin scripts)
sc
Script, i.e. the name of a script code template, see Category:Script code templates (for non-Latin scripts)
alt1, alt2
Alternate text.
pos1, pos2
Part-of-speech information. Additional unquoted explanatory text, coming after the transliteration and gloss.

For prefixes or words which have more than one language definition, a language parameter can be added, this should be a language code:

{{prefix|in|finitus|alt2=fīnītus|lang=la}}

gives the ouput:

in- +‎ fīnītus

If prefixes or words are written in non-Latin scripts, one script parameter (sc) and two transliteration parameters (tr1 and tr2) can be added.

{{prefix|с|путник|lang=ru|tr1=s|tr2=putnik|sc=Cyrl|gloss1=with|gloss2=traveller}}

gives the output

с- (s-, with) +‎ путник (putnik, traveller)
